Howl and Other Poems

Howl and Other Poems by Allen Ginsberg

To read this book after reading On Moral Fiction really gave the poems a whole new level of appreciation for what the writer was trying to do. It made me feel for this person who had gone though a rough patch. The forward mentioned that he did not expect to get anything else from Allen Ginsberg, and was surprised to get these poems. So, reading the poems with the knowledge that these words were born of struggle and pain made it a journey of emotion and not simply reading a series of poems.

This is a small book so a quick read. It’s not sunny poetry if that’s what you’re looking for. This would be a snapshot of the underside of society in the few locations he inhabited.

This is one of the books in Daria’s Reading List that I’m working on getting through.
