A Journal of the Plague Year

A Journal of the Plague Year by Daniel Defoe

I didn’t start this book till the end of 2020. It’s quite serendipitous to have this book on my list of books and to read it in such a year. It might have made me nervous if I had read it too early in the year. If I had read it too soon I would have been imagining the dead carts rolling in the streets and the mass graves.

So, this book is a fictional account, but the introduction said it did a really fair representation of the times. It’s scary to think about this having occurred. Having read this book has brought a new appreciation for . . everything. If the infrastructure of modern living were to break and send us back into times without running water, I could see how something like this could happen again.

The story felt slow, but I think maybe it’s my interpretation.

This is one of the books in Daria’s Reading List that I’m working on getting through.
